  1. This is like me cooking at home using minced garlic from a jar. When I was cooking professionally I cut up SO MUCH garlic, and even with gloves on my hands would end up smelling of garlic and in a couple days they would reek of stale garlic. During the off-season it would take several weeks for the stench to dissipate. May your hands never have vegetable shortening on them again, and may mine never again reek of garlic!

    1. *High Fives*

Minced garlic in a jar is GRAND.

  2. I just can’t bare to use the stuff for baking. I stick with butter. I feel…safe with butter.

    1. Man, I feel you, and usually agree. For this particular recipe shortening is just easier to work with because it retains a proper temperature for longer than butter. This is about the only recipe I use it with.

  3. It’s been around for at least 10 years. How long since you last baked?

    1. Admittedly, I had found out about it long before I published this comic, but this was my true reaction.

  4. I have a large box of disposable gloves that lives on my kitchen windowsill for just such situations!
    Meatloaf? gloves
    Greasing a pan? gloves
Dealing with horrific leftovers in the fridge? gloves, then OH GOD MAGGOTS NO NO JOSH TAKE OVER. but still, gloves
