For maximum firepower, slip the straw paper halfway off, then fold it back and wrap the loose part around the tip of the straw. This prevents the above from happening, as well as provides a weighted tip to help the projectile fly straight and true.
I WILL TRY YOUR TECHNIQUE.
In this particular instance, though, I think there was a hole in the other end of the paper as well. :/
