So. Anyone else out there excited that this Saturday is the season premiere of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?
Okay, okay! Don’t turn away, I know everyone out there reading this isn’t a fan of the show, but please, indulge me the odd Life On a Stick comic about them! My love of these characters stems from when I was a wee creature. I’m an “old lady” and I remember, with fondness, the original My Little Pony toys. Those little horses were a bigger part of my childhood than Barbie or Cabbage Patch Kids ever were, so when the new show came out, I’ll admit, I was dubious at best. This was an integral part of my youth and New People were messing with it! I was intrigued, however, since the folks working on the show were animators and writers whose work I had enjoyed in the past (not to mention one of my close friends insisted I would love it). So I decided to give it a shot. It took a couple of episodes, and now I’m hooked. I won’t stand up here and tell you it’s the best show on the planet or that you should love it because it’s the most amazing thing in life. I enjoy the show for what it is: a well-written cartoon show aimed at girls. If you enjoyed shows like Power Puff Girls and some of the other older Cartoon Network original cartoons, you might enjoy this one, too.
ANYway now I’m reliving my youth as I snap up more plastic rainbow-hued equines with shiny, brushable hair. Fortunately, I’m not the only one, or I’d be extra embarrassed.
