  1. Hospitals, the only place on Earth that can make a military base’s chow hall look like haute cuisine.

Unless you’re in a military hospital, but if you’re in that bad a position you’re too busy hoping your doctors aren’t active duty but reservists.

    1. lol, I just had a baby in a military hospital, and the food was surprisingly.. not awful. Standard food service of america fare, so it wasn’t great, but they didn’t ruin it at least.

  2. Hospital I was born in, and volunteered at in teen years… uh… their kitchen did catering.

‘course, I have weird luck. Like, the only time I ever had fantastic sashimi, it was airplane food. And before you think that’s suicidal, ordering the raw fish on a plane? It was JAL, flying out of Tokyo, first meal of the flight. That fish was fresh, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious, the way it should be.

Finding the best of the typically awful may be a stupid superpower, but if you don’t have a lot of choice, it’s better to be lucky than smart.

  3. I’ve only overnighted at a hospital as a kid doing one of those studies they give you money for. Had perfectly good chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes, so between that and also enjoying airplane meals, I feel like I’m not eating the stuff that everyone makes fun of.
