#980 Cable

  1. It is the mark of a fine person, to find humor in a hospital stay.. 🙂

Did they insert a catheter? It has at least one significant benefit, which is that for ever after, as long as you live, you know that nothing more undignified can ever happen to you ..

    1. Thankfully, they did not, although I was super afraid they were going to (UTI city, so no thanks!). Due to the swelling in my clot-leg I was having trouble walking, but they settled for having me call a nurse to walk me back and forth.

  2. I did the same thing with Mythbusters when I was hospitalized for three days in 2008.

    1. Oh, that would have been a good choice for me too!

I don’t have cable. So when I was planted in the hospital for almost three weeks due to a heart issue a few years back; I discovered American Pickers. History Channel was having a marathon.

American Pickers, Mystbusters, Great British Bake Off … and the Game Show Network were my opiates.

  4. Television and respiratory infections changed my life. Twice.

One day in high school, I was home with bronchitis, stoned out on that good old red codeine cough syrup. Some show about a manic lush with bad jokes and a chef’s knife came on. Graham Kerr, The Galloping Gourmet. Completely changed my approach to cooking. (I was already on board with bad jokes and knives.)

About 30 years later, I was home from work with similar symptoms, when I stumbled on a show about an obsessive dork with bad jokes churning butter in a food processor. Alton Brown, Good Eats. Completely changed my approach again. Squid Pro Quo may be my all-time favorite cooking show episode. And I don’t eat calamari. 🙂
