    1. luckily I’ve heard it’s actually pretty hard for possums to get or carry rabies. Something about their body temperature. So raccoons, say, would be way more dangerous. I can totally see Wendy running a possum sanctuary!

      1. Yep, the Virginia Opossum has a pretty low body temperature, so it’s really difficult for them to contract rabies (which isn’t to say you should go petting or picking up a wild one. They have filthy, filthy mouths and will bite you.).

        I’ve thought about fostering them with the wildlife rehabilitation center my friend volunteers for, but with a small kid it’s just not something I have time for (nor would it be safe!).

        1. And I just now remembered another really cool thing about them is they eat ticks, which can really come in handy when there’s too much Lyme Disease in your neighborhood.
