(Permanent meal tables, in Western history, where a thing for peasants, who used their kitchen all-purpose work & eating & everything else table. Well-off people used trestle tables, either in the hall, or even in early dining rooms in smaller residences. We don’t have room for a large enough table for company, so I cling to the “trestle tables are fancy” thing excessively.)
