We moved a lot when I was a kid. I got quite good at changing accents. After 6 months, you would never know I wasn’t born wherever I happened to be living.
I’m the same, except that my default has been a mix between US-newscaster-midwest and Newfie for years now. I’ve only recently moved to the midwest (and the local accent sounds southern to me), and I’ve never been to Newfoundland.
I only got the, “Where are you from?” when I lived in Pennsylvania. That is strange, because I was FROM Pennsylvania. Apparently I sounded more like I’m from Illinois. Either that or people are just much more used to odd accents on military bases.
I get this all the time. I was born and raised in North Carolina, but my accent sounds more like a mix of my parents’ who are from western New York and Ohio. It’s so stupid when people insist that you are not from a certain place, even though they don’t know you at all.

“But my stereotype of Alabama is country bumpkin, you don’t talk like that.”
“You are messing up my tiny world view dammit!”

Yeah, and really, if you were gonna lie about where you were born, you’d pick something more exciting.

Just ’cause she doesn’t have an accent, doesn’t mean she isn’t from Alabama

I really like the guys face in the last panel. Like he’s realizing that other people have the ability to know anything.

It was pretty amazing…I also think he wasn’t expecting a “lowly store clerk” to tell him he was wrong!

I get this all the time, too. Irritating.
