Though they’ve had cats for many years (they live in the kind of countryside place where you need a cat to keep the mice out) my sister’s family has somehow managed to train them all to stay away from the christmas tree. My nephew’s pet rabbit, on the other hand, would plunder the decorations from the lowest branches (it was a dwarf rabbit so couldn’t reach very high) and drag them into its cage.
We had boxes and boxes of beautiful ornaments from both sides, some dating back to the 1920’s, plus others we bought when we got married some *cough* years ago. My late sister in law made some big ceramic ones you could kill a person with and had to tie on the branches because the hooks wouldn’t hold them. The various cats we’ve had got all…of…them. 🙁 The only things they won’t touch are Dollarama ornaments and the metal ones but they knock those off. The only thing one of the dogs we’ve had has ever touched, other than knocking them off with their tails, was a little wooden sled one of them chewed that had our names painted on it and ‘happy 25th xmas’. The cat we have now isn’t so bad but there are still no ornaments on the bottom branches, just in case.
