When my friend’s daughter was a toddler she would refuse to go to sleep, BUT then she would scream & cry because she was tired. BUT she would become furious when anyone would try to put her to bed…Rinse, lather repeat until she dropped from exhaustion. :-0
Our brains haven’t developed enough to make connections so we just get angry & wail. Same problem with toddlers demanding A Thing then abruptly changing their minds. And they shriek because “OMG why did you give Thing when I clearly changed my mind 2 seconds ago?!” (Glad we don’t remember that part of our lives…)
Thankfully this didn’t happen a LOT with her when she was still small, but it happened *enough.* The getting “overtired” phenomenon is real AF too, and still mystifies me.
This is why we sometimes had to hold our toddler down. She was tired enough that she’d sleep if she stayed still, but she was too busy tantruming about being tired to sleep.

Yeah, brain development is WILD.

I couldn’t bring myself to hold her down, but sometimes I would lie on the floor next to her with my arm around her until she tired herself out.
