Growing up in New England, it never occurred to me that maple-anything and apple cider were enjoyed anywhere further south than Connecticut. I was shocked when I discovered them here in Maryland. 😉
Maple sugar was the first federally subsidized agricultural product in my home county of southwestern Pennsylvania, back in the early days of the republic. That’s just across the border from western Maryland.
They made plenty of cider (and rye whiskey), too. 🙂
I can get maple cookies and apple cider at Aldis in Florida. Not the same as getting it from the orchard after a day of apple picking, but it will do for the moment
