  1. I agree. Once Santa has passed by at the end of the Macy’s Parade (gods I hate parades) then it’s okay to begin celebrating Xmas. But go slowly, savor it. I think some of my gentile friends got it right: do the whole Advent build-up & then drag it out until 12th Night.

    1. You get it!

  2. I’m with Raf on this one, but that may be because I’m sick to death of seeing stores start putting up Christmas decorations at least a week before Halloween. Seriously, Christians/overly-zealous-celebrants, stop grabbing more of the bloody calendar. Wait for December, at the very least.

    1. I do not know how I managed to retain my love of Christmas after working 10 years in retail…but at least I wait until after Thanksgiving!

      1. Yeah, that’s bizarre. I’ve never worked retail, but you’d think the saturation would kill any love for the holiday (kind of like how I wished misfortune on Cher one night in the late 90’s after I heard “Do You Believe in Life After Love?” 7 times in an 8 hour shift at the job I had then).

I’d still like to see it pushed to December, but I would accept not seeing Santa pop up until after Thanksgiving. I have half a mind, once I own my own house, to leave up any Halloween decorations until New Year’s Day just to counter those putting up early Christmas decorations.

        1. We have a house in the neighborhood that just sort of puts their Christmas decorations on top of their Halloween ones.

And I definitely feel you on the music overkill. I still can’t listen to Adele without wanting to punch someone for similar reasons.

  3. She did

  4. My parents had a Holiday Truce of sorts. Mom loved Christmas Carols, dad did NOT. She started playing them when he WASN’T around after Halloween; she could play them ANY day ANY time Thanksgiving morning through New Years day. Also decorated the tree on Thanksgiving, mostly due to actually having the day off. Christmas lights outside might go up earlier, but that was weather-based. If there was a tolerably warm and dry Saturday in early November, put ’em up rather than risk doing so on a nearly-freezing drizzly weekend later. No law says you have to turn them ON before turkey day.

  5. The fat man needs to stay on his side of the calendar!
