I really do feel bad about women’s fashion. I never understood why women’s clothing is that much differently sized compared to men’s clothing. (I know the excuses and theories, but I still do not understand the ‘why’ of it).
Sewing is not rocket science, and a lot easier to do at home. 😛

But opening the seams of a well fitting pair of trousers and then fitting the pockets in such a way that it does not make for bulges or bad angles without compromising the integrity of the garment is not as simple as it can seem. I CAN and DO sew, both with a machine and by hand, making entire garments from several periods as well as the purely decorative stuff.

Funnily enough, my mom is going to teach me how to sew this summer (I mean, I can stitch holes and stuff but I never learned how to make clothing or to use a machine.)
Pfft, I bet he didn’t even TRY THEM ON. My husband gets a pair of pants, holds them up to make sure they’re long enough and goes about his merry way. Paaaaaaaaaants!
To be fair, they do need to try the pants on. Once, to figure out what style they need. Then they know what size in what style they need, they can buy them without trying them on. If you presented a man with a selection of pants that he’d never seen before he’d have to try a bunch on to figure out which style fit, and which size in that style, because they’re getting vanity sizing too.
This is true, but once he finds that style, the fit is pretty universal across the board, unlike with women’s styles which can be anywhere from “flirt” to “boyfriend.” I’ve also discovered that “mid rise” and “classic fit” can be completely different between brands. Sorry, Lee, “mid rise” doesn’t imply: “right to the bottom of my chest.” Yeesh.
what ya’ll didn’t mention is the ABSOLUTELY frustrating problem of sizing when you go to different stores! every store i go to, the numbers are not the same! have to go through the hassle of finding what number fits me in each store, which is compounded because i am a large girl. i finally gave up of ever wearing women’s clothing and now i just go and wear men’s clothes. at least i can get decent pockets with that. but i have to hem up every pair since im only 5′ 5″ otherwise i trip on the legs.

I bet they have real pockets, too.

I would give my kingdom for decent pockets!

Yeah, but would you learn to sew for them?

About the pockets: YES.
I almost went with a wedding dress BASED SOLELY ON THE FACT THAT IT HAD POCKETS.
I’m generally not willing to sew, but I’ve gotten to the point where I’m willing to pay people to alter my jeans.

Hell, don’t even need to get our right size. Baggy pants and suspenders never go outta style.

I have an easy solution. buy 4 pairs of pants that miraculously fit. never buy new pants ever ever again.

Basically this.
Or get them altered.
