It doesn’t really clean it, but baking soda absorbs odors, so making a baking soda explosion in the disposal will definitely make it stink less.

Yeah, and that was the thing I was concerned about…there were…Bits. Of….Stuff. Clinging to the guard, so I’m really glad that I ended up just scrubbing it!
Every so often I’ll toss in one of those disposal cleaning tablets. They do help, if for no other reason than being an abrasive and initially breaking up the puck does knock a lot of those bits off the blades and the walls. Doesn’t get rid of all the residue though, so I will start trying the baking soda and vinegar for the smell.

Aww, cute comic, but sorry you experienced that.
Next time try making a volcano with baking soda and vinegar. Does most of the work for you, and is a fun experiment!

Yeah, someone at work had mentioned that one too, and it is DEFINITELY the method I’m going to try next!

I just toss a whole lemon into the thing occasionally and that seems to keep the smells away.

Cut up a lemon and grind it up in the disposal unit. It’s cheap and works very time.

Third on the lemon, though I usually cut it up to not put such a strain on the motor… But OH YES how well it works! 🙂
