Even worse with snow. And driving around Toronto in December is scary. Watching people spin their wheels and fish tailing and you just want to scream at them “WHERE ARE YOUR WINTER TIRES!? THIS HAPPENS EVERY YEAR! YOU KNEW THIS WAS COMING! GET YOUR BLOODY WINTER TIRES!”
You don’t even have to go that far North. Happens every year in Michigan, as well. It’s like they completely forget how to drive during the winter. There are always 6 or more vehicles wiped out into the median on the first snow day of the year.
Not necessarily. Yes, in her case, it is Atlanta; but drivers act ALMOST as badly in Lexington, Kentucky. Of course, you can make a Kentucky driver go completely BATS**T insane just by mentioning the word “snow” on any radio station in the state.
I live in a desert where the inhabitants frequently leave their homes and stare up in bemused wonder at the sight of water falling from the sky like turkeys in danger of drowning. This is a pain I know all too well…though fortunately it doesn’t happen very often!
Trade you the rain for the freezing fog we got today. Put a nice ½ to ¾ inch of sheet ice on the interstate I had to drive on to get to work this morning and then home again this evening. Loads of FUN & EXCITEMENT!
Only place I ever got pulled over for speeding was in TN. I was doing 55 in a 55 zone with ½ inch of snow on the road. HiPo told me to slow down to something less than 50. I’m from SoDak and thought I had slowed down for road conditions. He told me that while he knew that I knew how to drive in ½ inch of snow, the locals didn’t, but because I was passing with no problems, they thought they could do 55 as well. Which they could not and I was causing more work for him having to call tow trucks for the ones that wound up in the ditch. I passed him later doing 45.
I’m smart enough to know that I don’t know how to drive in snow/ice (I’ve lived in the Southeast my entire life, so I’ve only even seen snow a handful of times since I was able to drive.). I just stay home if I can help it!
YES! I agree completely with you and Laura above. Snow? AHH! I can’t drive! Its too cold and icey and I can’t control my car! Drive at 10mph…. Sunshine? AGH! I can’t drive! Its too hot and bright and I can’t control my car! Drive at 10mph…. Rain? EEK! I can’t drive! Its too wet and misty and I can’t control my car! 10mph….
I now live in England… the traffic is the same but there is one key difference…. Closer to walk where ever I need to go 🙂 😛

Heaven forbid anyone mention the dreaded s-word down here! I…GUESS I could find snow tires if I tried, but the fact is it rarely actually snows here.
Which means everyone here SUCKS at driving in snow/ice and should just stay home, but they never, NEVER do!

I got lucky this year. I had a flat tire.
Why is this lucky?
One day later the first snow of the season came, and I had brand new tires on the front of my car. Also, it sucks to change a tire in the snow.
epilonious
I see you commute in and around Atlanta…

Traffic is pretty much a universal thing in any metropolitan area in America, and the dreaded s-word does the same thing where I live.
Epilonious is right, and let’s hear it for Metro ATL traffic -_-;
Laura
And then the sun comes out and a similar thing happens. It’s like the traffic has to take two days to recalibrate every time the weather changes.

I hear the same thing happens in reverse in Seattle XD

Texas is just as bad, if not worse. All we have to get his high humidity, clouds in the sky and oh noes! it’s gonna wain! Must drive less than 20 mph!

Should send them up here for a class in what to do when caught on the highway by a white out. They will have no troubles when they get back.

So do we! It just takes a lot more before we have to stay home because of snow.
That or when it comes “down” horizontally for a few hours. 😀
